Bayshore Task Force
The Bayshore Task Force (BTF) was
incorporated in 1972. Chief R. Bruce Phillips (Holmdel Township) and
Deputy Chief Joseph Booket (Aberdeen) approached the Bayshore Conference of
Mayors regarding the development of a Bayshore Task Force investigative
unit that would work with each town in the Bayshore area. There are ten
towns that make up this partnership: Atlantic Highlands, Highlands,
Keansburg, Union Beach, Keyport, Hazlet, Middletown, Holmdel, Matawan, and
Aberdeen.
Each town contributes to the BTF
expenses, and are thereby able to utilize shared resources, which would not
otherwise be available to individual communities.
In 1983 the Bayshore Task Force
formed a separate unit, which is known as the Bayshore Task Force Narcotic
Strike Force. Officers from these towns are assigned to the Strike Force
for one year. They work as undercovers, investigating various degrees of
narcotic trafficking.
Another unit within the BTF, the
Advisory Committee, consists of investigators from each municipality who
make recommendations on equipment and training to the BTF Board of
Directors, which consists of Chiefs from each municipality.
