In 2022, we launched our first ever Citizens Police Academy. The inaugural program was a major success and the academy is now a staple of our Community Policing program.
This program affords Holmdel residents the opportunity to obtain an intimate look into the duties and responsibilities of a Holmdel police officer. The academy is an eight week program, free to attend, and limited to 20 participants. Academy participants receive training across the spectrum of police work. Subjects and skills include:
Orientation and Agency Overview
Use of Force
Pursuits and Car Stops
Specialized Units and their Functions
Fire, First Aid, CERT, OEM
Detective Bureau Investigations
We are committed to developing partnerships with all citizens of the Township. The Citizens Police Academy provides members of the community with a background and understanding of Holmdel Police policies and activities, as well as the structure and limit of police power their duties. It is an opportunity for citizens to develop direct lines of communication with the Police Department.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age and residents of Holmdel. They must be of good moral character with no felony convictions or significant criminal history.
The Citizens Police Academy is not designed to make participants certified Police Officers. The participation and completion of the Academy is designed to develop partnerships with the Community. Graduating from the Academy does not grant Police authority to participants.
